Digital Cameras

Almost everyone has a digital camera now. The prices are very reasonable and the resolution (quality) of the photos is quite good. If you do not yet own a digital camera, we can help you choose one that fits your needs and budget. If you already own a digital camera, we can help you learn how to get the best quality photos.

There are many techniques that professional photographers use. Over exposure, under exposure, depth of field, framing the shot, and effective use of lighting and flash. Your camera can probably also take videos. We can help you with learning how to edit the videos and how to best store them and upload them to youtube.

If you have a digital camera already you probably also have hundreds of photos on your computer or memory card. Organizing the photos and doing some touch up with a program like Picasa can make your collection easier to maintain and also provide a way to publish and share your photos.

Please bring your camera to the class.

Classes will be once or twice a week depending upon the type of class (beginner, intermediate, advanced). These classes will be scheduled based upon student requests. The outlines below may change as necessary to ensure a great learning experience. You will need to have a digital camera and a computer to edit your photos. A laptop computer would be best for the class however, we may be able to accomodate a desktop computer. Unfortunately we do not have a computer for you to use.

Classes will be $25/hour unless otherwise noted.

Digital Camera Introduction

This class will provide you with a good overview of the types of digital cameras and their uses. This is an introductory class of approximately thirty minutes (1/2 hr) and will be provided at no cost.

          • Are all digital cameras the same?
          • Digital still images versus digital video
          • What does resolution mean?
          • Saving your photos on a computer and printing them
          • Using a photo web site like Picasa, Flickr, and others

          • How to make backups of your photos

            • Taking great photos in poor lighting
            • Advanced backup strategies
